Do you lead a busy lifestyle and find yourself scrambling when you get home from work to make dinner?
We may have a solution for you.
The GE Advantium is designed to provide you with fantastic results while cooking foods up to 8 times faster than traditional methods.
There are two versions of this product, with both having an effect on the type of electrical source that you have. There is a 120V version and a 240V with the latter cooking twice as fast which cuts the cooking time down even more.
For example: if you have two thawed boneless chicken breasts, you simply take them and place them on the black cooking tray that comes with these units. The cooking time in the 240V version is approximately just 6 minutes. In the 120V version it's just 12 minutes.
No preheat needed, it's just that quick.
That's a considerable time savings for someone getting home from work around 6pm and in need of preparing a healthy meal. In this day and age where many of us order pizza or do takeout for convenience and the sake of saving time, this is a major benefit. When you're able to prepare dinner that quickly, dinner is now over and done with by 7pm and now we have more time to spend with our families.
Take a look at the comparison chart
(pictured right) which shows the cooking time differences between the two versions, but more importantly look at the time chart which also outlines the difference between also cooking in a conventional oven. The savings is staggering.
Many ask, "Well does the food taste like it was cooked in the oven?" Absolutely. It even comes out browned, as the halogen lights within the oven are there to brown and crisp the food you're cooking. Want to make cookies? No problem, select "Deserts" and "Cookies," and then the type of dough and drop sizes you're putting on to the pan and it does the rest. Crescent Rolls? Again, no problem, select "Breads" and "Crescent Rolls," then simply select the size you're looking for. The menu is incredibly intuitive and there are over 100 recipes pre-programmed into these units.
You can even cook Filet Mignon. I've had both from a regular oven and the Advantium - and truthfully I couldn't taste a difference. It's just amazing how well these cook.
Clean-up is also easy. When you're done - the black cooking tray that comes with each unit goes right in the dishwasher. The entire interior of the oven is stainless steel and easily wipes clean.
These ovens are also incredibly versatile. They obviously double as a conventional microwave, but you can also bake, and you can even use it as a warming oven. On that mode you have the ability to select "Moist" or "Crisp" depending on the type of food you're trying to keep in there. Fried chicken? Select "Crisp". Mashed Potatoes? "Moist". The unit simply gets rid of the moisture on one setting, or holds it in on the other.
For both of these units, they come in either a traditional over-the-range (OTR) configuration, or as a built-in oven. The built-in ovens are larger, and allow you the ability to cook much larger dishes. The OTR versions do have a built-in fan system with halogen lights that illuminate your cooking surface, and are approximately the same size as a traditional OTR microwave. So if you're simply replacing a current unit, this may be something you may want to investigate as the cost difference with the 120V version isn't that much more than one of the better regular microwave units.
The thing to keep in mind is the fact that your electrical setup will obviously play a role in your purchase. If you have an interest in the 240V version, you'll need to be sure that your location is wired correctly - as it requires its own dedicated circuit. The 120V runs off of a regular outlet, and even has the ability to automatically adjust the cooking times in the event the current coming in drops off a bit (ex: the middle of the summer and everyone has their air conditioners running). The installation should also be very similar to an older unit as well.
Needless to say this appliance is one that you certainly may want to consider if you need a new microwave and would like to make your life a little easier. Scroll back up and take another look at the cooking chart, and then stop and think about your own schedule and imagine having dinner no longer being a desperate plan that needs to come together at the last minute each evening. Being able to eat much healthier, along with the convenience they offer, are two great reasons for you to take a good long look at these units.
Giving you more free time each night should be a reason you could end up going home with one.
