Samsung UN46B6000 LED TV Review
At 1.2" deep, the profile and picture will definitely get your attention.

Over the past few years we've watched television technology shift from picture tube sets that were two-feet deep, to LCD screens that are under 6-inches.

During that time we've seen the pictures become brighter and clearer, and with more and more channels changing over to high definition, it's made these television sets look even more amazing.

Believe it or not, Samsung has just taken things to the next level.

The new Samsung UN46B6000 46-inch LED High Definition TV is just 1.2" deep, with a picture that is absolutely stunning. With an incredible 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio (even the best traditional LCD televisions are 70,000:1), it's one of the brightest and clearest televisions we've seen yet. The difference is that these sets use LEDs as their primary light source, rather than traditional Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL) that a conventional LCD uses. The benefit is that there is an LED behind each pixel, which Compared to a traditional CCFL, LEDs are able to produce darker blacks while remaining crisp and bright with vivid colors.

Just 1.2" Thick
There are other benefits to this technology. One of the big benefits that they are certainly more "green" than a conventional LCD, using 40% less power and they're free of lead and mercury. This not only saves you money on your utility bill, but will also save the environment.

This set comes well equipped, with a built-in ATSC tuner, 4 HDMI inputs, 2 USB inputs, 1 Component Video input, a PC input, an Ethernet connection, and an optical audio output. There are also some great features you can access if the set is connected to the internet (there is an optional wireless internet adapter available). You can access news, weather, stock quotes, sports, and more right through the television without a computer. It also includes a user friendly USB interface, which allows you to view pictures from a USB drive, or even watch video files with just a few clicks of your remote.

If you own a Samsung BluRay player, the television supports the use of Anynet+, which allows you to control other Samsung devices. When connected via a HDMI cable, the television sensed the player and changed the image mode to "BD Wise", which enhances the picture. While watching the Disney movie "Cars", the picture was clear and smooth, with the fast action scenes rendering quite nicely on this set. The black levels were one of the best we've seen yet, with deep rich blacks and no loss of detail in darker scenes.

Viewing the set from the side we found very little loss in brightness or clarity, and the thin profile of this huge set is absolutely amazing. It also weighs in at just 38.8 pounds, and unlike most other LCD televisions when mounted on the wall it appears more like a picture than a TV.

Needless to say this set gives you a glimpse at the future of flat screen televisions. Being more energy efficient and better for the environment already gives you two good reasons to add this set to your home. However, once you see this set the picture and the razor thin profile may be all it takes to make you want to add it to your home theater.
